New York: A Horizon Retold

New York: A Horizon Retold

Date: 2020

Client: Competition

Scope: Architecture & Visualization

In this speculative visualization, we envision the architectural evolution of New York over the next 20 years, exploring the shift from horizontal to vertical urban development. This imaginative journey paints a future where skyscrapers become the norm, designed to maximize profits and utilize limited resources efficiently. These towering, glossy structures, interconnected and responsive to increasing population density, symbolize humanity's relentless pursuit of vertical expansion.

Yet, amidst this vertical ambition, the city retains its historical infrastructure, presenting a stark contrast between the sleek new and the aging old. Streets less illuminated and maintained, alongside ongoing construction, reflect a city caught between eras. This visualization also imagines the integration of modern technology within this landscape, likening today's electric cars to tomorrow's advancements, seamlessly blending with the familiar.

Through this project, we aim to highlight the importance of balancing growth with sustainability, urging a re-evaluation of our urban development strategies. It's a contemplative look at what could be, not as a grim prophecy, but as a speculative reflection, hoping to inspire better choices for our shared future.
